About
SAME’s Mission Statement:
“The mission of the Society of American Military Engineers is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public and private sector engineers, and related professionals.”
President’s Message:
I am honored to serve as President of the San Diego Post, a Post with a long and distinguished history of excellence. I am privileged to follow in the footsteps of tremendous past Post Presidents, many of which remain intensely engaged in the operations and direction of the San Diego Post through their significant positions of responsibility on our Board of Directors and through many other National and local volunteer opportunities. The San Diego Post Board of Directors is top-notched. Transformative, yet anchored with a core of hard working, dedicated professionals who have delivered superior results, to include: another year winning streamers in all categories, Distinguished Post recognition, $35,000 in scholarships, joint activities with neighboring Posts, to include a hugely successful ‘Camp Pendleton Day’ Industry Forum, which allowed us to support the Armed Services YMCA and Operation Homefront through benevolent donations.
This year is a huge year for the San Diego Post. We will host the 2013 Joint Engineering Training Conference and Expo (JETC) at the San Diego Convention Center 20-24 May. Early expectations are that it will be the largest JETC in the history of S.A.M.E. We have a great venue and the anchor and overflow hotels are all premier, downtown, waterfront, San Diego destination hotels. As our nation confronts uncertain economic times, there is no better venue to train, exchange ideas, network solutions and provide cogent advice for a brighter, safer, more sustainable and prosperous future. This will come about due to your participation and generous commitment of time and knowhow.
I thank all our current members and sustaining member firms for your continued support. I will call on each of you to put a few ‘extra chips on the table’ as the spotlight is truly on the San Diego Post this year. For those reading this message who are not current S.A.M.E. members, I strongly encourage you to make the commitment to the San Diego Post this year. There is no better year to be a member in San Diego. You will be joining a professional community of the highest standards, who above all, work together to further the ideals which are at the foundation of our great nation.
We’ve recently established a student post at San Diego State University. Its first year was a resounding success. The Post will look to both build on that success through mentoring and outreach, and expand our reach to other San Diego area engineering universities.
S.A.M.E. and the San Diego Post whole heartedly support our nation’s Wounded Warriors. Within our Society, half of our common link is “Military.” As such, we have a solemn obligation to support and aid those who have given beyond their fair share to our country. At every San Diego Post monthly luncheon, we will present between 3 to 5 Wounded Warriors who are ready for transition to employment in the civilian sector. I make this appeal to every member; take action, be engaged, make a difference in these heroes’ lives through offering them a position of employment, or at least helping them make a connection which will lead to a job offer. It’s our duty and our honor.
I am excited with the challenges and opportunities that await me and our Post in 2012-2013. I am blessed to have served as Post Vice President under Mr. Rick Rubin last year and will continue to have his active guidance and support in his role as Post Past President. Let’s all work together to make this a banner year!
Sincerely,
CAPT Clifford M. Maurer, CEC, USN
Post President
