November Post Luncheon – BIM Symposium Recap
The San Diego Post’s November 9th Building Information Modeling (BIM) Conference was a first of its kind for the Post and for NAVFAC SW. The event was an amazing journey through the wide spectrum of the capabilities of BIM and the current cutting edge tools and applications.
Michael Smith of C,W. Driver and Jonathon Wetmore of Vasquez Marshall Architects did an excellent job leading us through what BIM is – from design through construction – using renderings and videos. View their presentation here.
Rob Muellner and Thai Nguyen of Hensel Phelps, along with Chad Pinard from University Mechanical took the audience thought the construction of the San Diego Federal Courthouse designed in BIM including lessons learned. They demonstrated the latest technologies in which superintendents are armed with iPads rather than rolls of plans as they review various elements of construction. View their presentation here.
Kimon Onuma of Onuma Inc. provided a fantastic presentation on the power BIM in facilities management through presentation materials and a live demonstration (including turning the light off in a room in real-time over 400 miles away). View his presentation here.
David Gutierrez of NAVFAC presented a rare inside look into NAVFAC’s approach to tackling Building Information Management & Modeling (BIMM) , including how the organization responsible for all US Navy and Marine Corps military construction has gotten to where they are and a timeline of where they plan to go by when.
